Area Rug Care and Maintenance
Everyday Care
Vacuum regularly to prevent dirt and grit from sifting into the roots of the fibers, where the harshest damage occurs.
- Avoid walking on the fringed area of the rug.
- Use top-quality padding to provide protection from dirt, wear and slippage.
- Depending on the amount of traffic, an experienced professional cleaning is recommended as needed.
Accidental Spills
- Blot up excess liquid immediately with a towel. Do not rub.
- If the liquid is water based, apply a mild, bleach-free detergent (e.g. Woolite) diluted with water, using a clean dry cloth and working from the edge of the spot to the center, to avoid spreading. Rinse with water mixed with a small amount of white vinegar. Blot, then dry completely using a hair dryer at medium setting, or by elevating the rug to allow air underneath.
- For spills that are oil-based in nature, contact a professional rug cleaner immediately.
Tears, Holes or Worn Spots
- Contact a professional rug repair service to repair the signs of aging and to avoid further damage.
- Ragged fringes or loose binding should be mended by a professional service.
