Hardwood Floor Care & Maintenance
|
In order to keep your hardwood floors looking great and to minimize the appearance of scratches, Riemer recommends the following Hardwood Floor Care & Maintenance tips.
- Vacuum and sweep frequently. While this may seem obvious, it is imperative that you realize that the everyday particles of dirt are like sandpaper to your wood floors. The longer they stay on your floor, the bigger chance they have of grinding into the floor, creating scratches that you can't get out.
- Use Runners & Mats. Runners and mats are crucial to the life of your floor. Place in high traffic areas, areas with excessive sunlight, or by places that are prone to water and dirt (such as by the sink or stove). Make sure to move the mats occassionally.
- Avoid excessive liquids on your hardwood floors at all costs. This includes wet mopping your floor. Clean up any spills immediately. For what's best to clean your floor, check with your hardwood flooring manufacturer's guidelines.
- Be gentle! Hardwood floors are durable, but do not hold up well against the dangers of humans and pets- i.e., cut Fido's nails and leave the spiked stilettos at the door!
- Monitor the humidity level. Hardwood floors will warp in extremely high or low humidity levels so monitor the humidity of your home using humidifiers or dehumidifiers when necessary.
